JOY IN A BOX

JOY IN A BOX

By Noel Chatepa

The Karonga Diocese has distributed Boxes of Joy from Cross Catholic Outreach to 8640 learners in the diocese through its Education Desk and Lusubilo Community Care. The Boxes of Joy have been distributed to schools in the deaneries of Chilumba, Karonga, Kapoka and Chitipa.

“We feel so grateful for the wonderful gift that has been given to our learners, it is not easy for someone to think of sharing to someone and we encourage Cross Catholic Outreach to continue to give these gifts to us as the children are very excited and thankful” says Mrs. Chirwa from Kaporo Primary School in Karonga Deanery.

In a separate interview, Mr. Lino Nyirenda who is the desk officer for education in the diocese of Karonga stated that apart from enhancing teaching and learning, the Boxes of Joy also serve as motivation to learners and helps in reducing school absenteeism.

The Boxes of Joy contain items such as rosaries, books, pencils, notebooks, toothpaste, toys and clothes among other things. Cross Catholic Outreach is an American Catholic ministry whose mission is to mobilize the global Catholic Church to transform the poor and their communities materially and spiritually for the glory of Jesus Christ.
