Thanks to the economic empowerment component in the Community Transformation project being implemented by the Diocese of Karonga with funding from Cross Catholic Outreach, Irene Zuze, a beneficiary from Mulyabweka village under T/A Wasambo in Karonga district, no longer faces the struggle of merely surviving to support her family.

Irene Zuze is the proud proprietor of a tuck shop that serves as a significant economic asset.

Initially, she secured a loan of K40 thousand from her Village Savings and Loan group locally known as Bank Mukhonde group to establish her tuck shop business.

Additionally, she maintains a backyard garden that provides her with nutritious food support.

During an interview, Zuze shared that she is now capable of meeting her children’s educational needs, such as books and uniforms, owing to the valuable knowledge gained through the project.

Furthermore, she expressed deep appreciation to the Diocese for spearheading this initiative, as many individuals were previously unaware of how to initiate a business venture or the benefits of bank Mukhonde groups.

Furthermore Zuze said she is committed to educating others about the importance of such endeavors.
